H&M's New Conscious Collection Is Live
Haven’t seen the latest Conscious Collection from H&M yet? You’re in for quite a treat!
Returning for its sixth season, the world renowned high-street brand has introduced it’s most innovative season yet. From fractured floral prints to decorative stitching and tactile textures, the capsule collection is packed with modern detailing and richly opulent designs, each boasting an eco-friendly disposition.
The everlasting allure of floral patterns are brought to new life with digital techniques that create an abstract and contemporary look, while richly textured fabrics and architectural pleats add a modern day edge. “For the design team at H&M, this year’s Conscious Exclusive is a chance to dream and create pieces that are both quirky and beautiful. It’s great to be able to show just what’s possible with sustainable materials,” Explains Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s Head of Design and Creative Director.
Take the collections spotlight evening gown, for example. To the untrained eye this sweeping blush maxi dress, complete with swirling ruffles and billowing gown, looks fit for a black-tie gala. However look closely and you’ll discover that instead of silk or satin, this striking dress is actually crafted from Bionic Yarn - a material made from recovered plastic. (In other words, think plastic bottles and grocery bags that lines the worlds shorelines. Yes, really.)
“You can’t believe that Bionic dress is made from old plastic bottles,” Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Creative Advisor explained to Vogue.com. “It’s a precious piece you can wear and cherish and save in your wardrobe. With the Conscious Exclusive Collections, we always try to find a new fabric or new technique. It’s where we try to push the boundaries of what’s possible with sustainable fabrics and show how beautiful garments can be.”
It should come as no surprise that H&M decided on casting fellow supermodel and philanthropist Natalie Vodianova to don the show-stopping dress whilst staring in her very first H&M campaign. “I am proud to appear in the H&M Conscious Exclusive campaign. It’s amazing to see the advances in sustainable fabrics that are used in the collection, pointing towards a more sustainable future for all fashion,” the supermodel explained.
